NGO CSW/NY’s Monthly Meetings are an essential part of our work to engage our global constituency in the UN CSW and NGO CSW Forum processes, as well as in global gender equality advocacy in general. Each month, the meeting addresses a different topic related to the CSW. CSW69/Beijing +30 is the time for the Commission on the Status of Women to examine the gains made under the Beijing Platform for Action and the twelve critical areas identified as essential to women’s empowerment and opportunities. The program for each monthly NGO CSW/NY meeting during the 2024/2025 year considers two of the critical areas for investigation. The January 2025 program focuses on the critical areas of women and education and women and poverty. This meeting explores the intersection of education and poverty, specifically regarding the experiences of Indigenous women. The panel, moderated by one of NGO CSW/NY’s co-chairs, Pamela Morgan, featured two Indigenous speakers—Wakerakatste (Wa-geh-lah-gats-the) Louise Herne, Bear Clan Mother for the Mohawk Nation Council, and Vilma Saloj, Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships, MAIA. Each panelist explored the themes of education and poverty from cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral perspectives, offering critical and thought-provoking insights.

This session was co-sponsored by the NGO Committee on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
